Cannabinoids such as THC and CBD are used in many areas of medicine today. According to Dr. med. univ. Sandra Pittl, medication can be reduced or eliminated in palliative care, for example. Recent studies even point to anti-tumor effects of the plant.

Dr. Lisa Markhardt has been working at the ZIO since last year and will also take over the management of the Zurich site on February 1, 2026. As site manager, she aims to further develop and improve collaboration between the specialists involved in medical, therapeutic and psycho-oncological care.
The Center for Integrative Oncology (ZIO) has been in existence for ten years. The integrative treatment approach cultivated there, previously ridiculed by outsiders as therapy by "herbal oncologists", is now the recognized standard of care. The Center for Integrative Oncology offers a holistic assessment, treatment and care concept for all tumor and blood diseases.
Individual care is provided in an atmosphere of trust by an interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and therapists. Diagnostic and therapeutic strategies are designed according to the latest findings and discussed in detail with the patients. As part of our holistic approach, we combine modern drug-based tumor treatment with a range of additional measures such as sports and nutritional therapy at our sites in Zurich, Winterthur, Richterswil, Glarus and Uster.
