Focus on hematology: For the quality of life of those affected

With a new focus at the Zurich site, the ZIO can now provide even more comprehensive support for people with hematological diseases.

"With the new focus area, we want to provide people with haematological diseases with the latest medical treatments," says Dr. med. Nona Shayegi, Head Physician at the ZIO Zurich and responsible for the development of the haematology focus area since autumn 2023. She emphasizes how important it is to her as a doctor specializing in haematology and oncology and as a former scientist to always be at the cutting edge of science and to be able to advise and treat patients accordingly. Anyone living with a hematological disease can benefit from this - from anemia to leukemia. "We treat all degrees of severity comprehensively here."

"For us, integrative treatment means: highly modern, highly specialized, personalized and holistic."

Ultra-modern and holistic

This service is now available to all patients. The establishment of the hematology focus was a major concern for the ZIO. "Haematological diseases are complex and the demand for continuous and integrative treatment is increasing," says Shayegi. "For us, integrative treatment means: highly modern, highly specialized, personalized and holistic." Even in highly specialized medicine, it is important to the Head Physician to not "just" treat the illness, but to focus on the person as a whole. Individual quality of life is always at the heart of treatment and the associated decisions.

It is this connection that particularly motivates Shayegi for her new role at the ZIO: "I can combine my passion for medicine here with the desire to do something that is really helpful for patients. We make a positive contribution to their lives - precisely because we take a holistic view of their situation."

The ZIO also wants to pass on its specialist knowledge in the field of haematology in order to be able to help even more patients. Various further training courses on the subject are planned.
