New managing director for the ZIO
Since September 1, the Center for Integrative Oncology (ZIO) has had a new Managing Director, Nadine Wilhelm. Wilhelm, who is also a member of the management board of ZIO's parent company NSN medical AG, attaches great importance to a holistic approach.
"I always put people at the center"
Nadine Wilhelm is fascinated by the ZIO's core idea of treating patients holistically. That's why she accepted the job as Managing Director. A task that she sees as both a great challenge and a great opportunity, as she explains in the interview.
Your last job was in the Upper Engadine, now you are working in the canton of Zurich at ZIO and NSN medical AG. A very big geographical leap.
Nadine Wilhelm: Yes. And I didn't actually want to leave the Engadin. But I was extremely fascinated by the ZIO and the NSN because the ZIO wants to advance holistic healthcare. I also want to drive this idea forward, but this is very difficult in certain companies. Not so with the ZIO. So the leap to Zurich has to do with the content of my new role and the vision and strategy of the Center for Integrative Oncology.
The You may have worked in the medical sector in recent years, but you originally dedicated yourself to sports science and biology. How close are they to each other?
Nadine Wilhelm: My studies were already related to medicine. I also worked as a surgical nurse in the operating theater at Zofingen Hospital while I was studying. I am fascinated by people as a whole.
What expectations do you have for the ZIO?
Nadine Wilhelm: I have high expectations of myself, which is also reflected in what I want from my employees: Showing initiative, taking responsibility, being a team player, for example. I want to develop myself as well as the employees and the company.
What is your management philosophy?
Nadine Wilhelm: I always focus on people, whether they are patients or employees. That's my management philosophy, and it won't change because I've done very well with it so far. What will change for me, however, is that I am now the Managing Director. I see this as a great challenge and a great responsibility. And it's an exciting opportunity to shape the future of the company together with the people behind the ZIO.
What is the general aim of your work?
Nadine Wilhelm: It is important that we have a healthy healthcare system, but one that is entrepreneurial in its approach. However, people and their health must be at the center of all these efforts: You have to take care of people. The holistic approach is very important to me. It also sets us apart from other companies.
Are there any definite projects at ZIO that you will be tackling soon?
Nadine Wilhelm: The Uster site was only opened in the spring and therefore still needs to be specially better known and further developed become. And the ZIO is set to grow, so there are sure to be more locations. The new IT strategy is also an important project for the company. This involves optimizing existing systems and setting up future-oriented IT that is suitable for the various locations, which will increase efficiency and make it easier for us to work from mobile locations, for example. One important issue here is the security of patient data.
That sounds like a lot of hours in the office. Where do you find relaxation?
Nadine Wilhelm: I did triathlon for almost 15 years, sometimes very intensively. I also enjoy hiking in the great outdoors. I'm also out and about on my bike, and swimming is a great balance for me. I find further relaxation in meditation. Or simply going out into the wilderness with my VW bus and my two dogs - that brings peace to my system.
