External applications in cancer therapy

The Center for Integrative Oncology (ZIO) treats people suffering from cancer at all stages of the disease. It is a central concern of ours to view people as a unity of body, soul and spirit and to respect the individuality of each person.

The methods of modern oncology are combined with anthroposophic medicine and proven methods of complementary medicine within the framework of the integrative concept.

However, oncological therapy is also an arduous process for the body, and it therefore needs support and relief. External applications such as wraps and compresses as well as rhythmic embrocations are nursing body applications and are integrated into the treatment concept at the ZIO. Among other things, they improve circulation, relieve pain and tension, promote rhythmic processes such as breathing and elimination and lead to an increased sense of well-being.

External applications already had their place in traditional folk medicine in the past and are still used successfully in anthroposophic medicine today. The rhythmic embrocations were developed at the beginning of the last century by the two doctors Dr. lta Wegman and Dr. Margarete Hauschka as part of the therapeutic concept of anthroposophic medicine.

Wraps and compresses

The effect of the prescribed substance from tea, ointment or oil provides specific support for various complaints such as tiredness, tension, pain, restlessness and other complaints. After a treatment, you feel refreshed and relaxed.

Substances are applied to the skin with cloths and fixed there. The enveloping wrap creates a kind of second skin that provides boundaries and support. The unique combination of warmth and heat or coolness and cold creates a climatic envelope in which the effect of substances such as camomile or yarrow can unfold.

Rhythmic embrocations

The gentle touch of Wegman/Hauschka's rhythmic embrocations stimulate the weakened organism. They support people in their self-awareness and increase vitality. The results are an improvement in well-being, a warming up
and revitalization of the tissue and the release of tension. Rhythmic processes such as breathing or excretory processes are stimulated and strengthened.

In this treatment method, the quality of touch is based on rhythmic principles. Medicinal oils and ointments are applied to the body in either partial or full body rubs using mindful, finely guided movements. A short rest period following the
Treatment promotes the effect of this form of therapy.
