It is the time of year when we like to pause and reflect on the things that are really important to us in life. We may look back and look forward to spending time with our loved ones. With cancer, these hours with loved ones, looking back on the past and looking forward to the future take on a very special meaning. People with cancer are often confronted with major challenges that go beyond the physical effects of the disease and treatment. This is why we have been offering psycho-oncological counseling at the Center for Integrative Oncology ZIO since the very beginning. Find out more about this in this newsletter, don't hesitate to get in touch with your contact person at the ZIO - and don't forget to enjoy the good times with your loved ones. We wish you a wonderful Advent season.

Psycho-oncological counseling How to deal with a cancer diagnosis?
Cancer. This word alone triggers thoughts in many of us that we don't like to bear. Thoughts that unsettle us and scare us. The diagnosis of cancer often pulls the rug from under the feet of those affected and those close to them, while they are primarily concerned with reorganizing their lives with the changed situation. Support that goes beyond medical and nursing care is therefore particularly important. Psycho-oncological counseling can help both people with cancer and their loved ones during such a challenging time. In this interview, Dr. Michael Decker, Medical Director of the ZIO Zürichsee, and Ursula Staub, a psycho-oncological consultant with many years of experience in oncology care, talk about the service.

ZIO as a guest at TOP MED "Those affected should feel heard and seen"
Dr. Michael Decker, Ursula Staub and Sandra Häni, who is undergoing treatment at the ZIO, also spoke about the psycho-oncological counseling service on TELE TOP's health programme TOP MED. "The changes that the disease brings with it keep me very busy," reports Sandra Häni. How do I manage my strength? How can I deal with the fact that I don't have enough energy for many things that I took for granted before the diagnosis? Consultant Ursula Staub explains what psycho-oncological counseling is all about and how she helps those affected to find out what is good for them. "The most important thing is that those affected feel heard and seen," she says.
